Health Education

As an organization of predominantly African American women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is uniquely positioned to impact not only the well-being of its membership, but also the well-being of families and communities at large. This initiative addresses the challenges of living holistic and healthy lives.

The three-pronged approach to Journey to Wellness includes:

  1. A refocused Lose to Win! To include Physical Activity and Healthy Eating
  2. Physical Health: Chronic Diseases and
  3. Mental Health

The Health Education Committee of Southfield Alumnae Chapter achieves the goals of this initiative through an annual 12-week Weight Loss Challenge, Destination: Healthy You. The finale of the challenge is a one day Health Expo. The components of this program include sessions with a registered dietician, wellness coaches, fitness instructors, physical exercise through mall walking, zumba, and boot camp. A partnership with the Membership Committee for the annual Spare a Life, Strike out Diabetes is a fun and educational event for the community to receive information regarding the prevention, detection, and treatment of diabetes. All proceeds benefit the American Diabetes Association.

Announcement of these activities are posted on the chapter website. For additional information, please contact
