Drake Educational Enrichment Program

The Carolyn A. Drake Educational Enrichment Program (DEEP) is a tutorial initiative of the Southfield Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, designed to elevate academic achievement and foster lifelong learning among elementary-aged students.

Serving students in grades K–5, DEEP provides structured, small-group, and one-on-one instruction in core subject areas, including reading, mathematics, science, and writing. The program is rooted in personalized support, ensuring that each student receives the attention and guidance needed to strengthen academic skills and build confidence.

Originally established in 1986 as the Chapter’s Tutorial Program, the initiative was renamed in 2022 to honor Carolyn A. Drake, whose legacy reflects a deep commitment to education and youth development. In alignment with her vision, DEEP emphasizes academic enrichment, educational outreach, and holistic student growth – key components of Southfield Alumnae Chapter’s mission to serve the community through service and scholarship.

Tutoring sessions are held twice monthly on Wednesdays from October through May, from 6 to 7 p.m. Each session incorporates engaging, hands-on learning activities led by trained educators and volunteers. Students benefit from themed sessions, skill reinforcement, and opportunities to celebrate academic progress and milestones in a supportive environment.

Program Goals

  • Strengthen understanding of core academic concepts
  • Provide engaging, fun learning experiences
  • Remove academic barriers to support student success
